Pattern Making In Clay Workshop with Rubber Glove Ceramics
Thursday 28th August 6.30 - 8.30pm
In this two hour workshop, we will be learning how to use coloured clay to create surface patterns on pottery. You will get the chance to make your own colourful slabs and use these to build your very own small cup or tray.
We’ll be using colours reflecting the beautiful stock curated by This Must Be The Place, so there will be plenty of inspiration all around!
What to expect:
- a short paper collaging exercise to explore designs
- learning the basics of slab-building with clay
- coloured clays provided to create surface designs
- templates for making a small cup or tray
- your finished pottery will be glazed and ready for pick up within a few weeks!
What to bring:
- clothes that you don’t mind getting messy
- inspiration images for patterns (optional)

Tutor:
This workshop will be run by rubber glove ceramics (aka Paula Doherty). She has been making ceramics for over six years in her Glasgow studio. Her work is predominantly inspired by the natural world, Scottish landscapes and found rocks, but with a contemporary and geometric twist! She mostly works in stoneware with some trad pottery elements and colours that are contrasted with simpler yet fun more modern shapes. Through her work, she hopes to create everyday items which can be both long-lasting and functional, and bring a little joy to the user's every day. Alongside her own practice, Paula also runs pottery workshops and works as a technician at Wild Gorse Pottery.
